English: This is the greek-roman dock of Empúries (Ampurias is the castillian name). Swimming here is amazing. And touching these stones... The city was founded in 575 BC by Greek colonists from Phocaea and its population increased considerably when the Persian king Cyrus II conquered Phocaea some decades later. It was situated on the commercial route between Massalia (Marseille, France) and Tartessos (the richest native kingdom), so it developed into a large economic and commercial centre and the largest Greek colony in the Iberian Peninsula. During the Punic Wars, Empúries allied itself with Rome, and Publius Cornelius Scipio initiated the conquest of Hispania from this city in 218 BC. The first roman legions landed here, on this sand covered now with towels and people from all around Europe. PS: At the end of the 3rd century the Greek town was abandoned while the Roman town survived until the Viking raids of the 9th century.
