Soviet WW2 era Heavy tank / Assault gun
Built:- late 1939 to mid 1941
Total production:- 334
Main armament:- 152mm M-10T Howitzer
The KV-2 used a KV-1 chassis but with a much larger turret mounting a 152mm gun. Named “Dreadnought” by Russian crews, it made for an impressive sight on the battlefield but the excessive overall weight made it very slow to manoeuvre and the huge turret made for an excellent target. The weight of the turret also meant it could only traverse when the tank was on level ground. For these reasons it was only built in relatively small numbers.
This is the only surviving original example. It was built in June 1941 and has the serial No 4744.
It is on display at the Central Armed Forces Museum,
Moscow, Russia.
