Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące na Filipinach, Papui-Nowej Gwinei i Wyspach Salomona[3][4].

Acutotyphlops: łac. acutus „ostro zakończony”, od acuere „wyostrzyć do punktu”; gr. τυφλωψ tuphlōps, τυφλωπος tuphlōpos „ślepy wąż”[2].
