Owocowiec^[14] (Artibeus) – rodzaj ssaków z podrodziny owocnikowców (Stenodermatinae) w obrębie rodziny liścionosowatych (Phyllostomidae).

Zasięg występowania[edytuj | edytuj kod]

Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące w Ameryce^[15]^[16]^[17].

Morfologia[edytuj | edytuj kod]

Długość ciała 5,9–10,4 cm, długość przedramienia 4,4–7,5 mm; masa ciała 18–69 g^[16]^[18].

Systematyka[edytuj | edytuj kod]

Rodzaj zdefiniował w 1821 roku angielski przyrodnik William Elford Leach w artykule poświęconym rodzajom liścionosów opublikowanym na łamach Transactions of the Linnean Society of London^[1]. Na gatunek typowy Leach wyznaczył (oznaczenie monotypowe) owocowca liścionosego (A. jamaicensis).

Etymologia[edytuj | edytuj kod]

Artibeus (Artibaeus, Arctibeus, Arctibius, Artibacus, Artiboeus, Artobius, Artiheus): gr. αρτι arti ‘prosty’; βάω baō, βαινω bainō ‘iść’^[19].
Madataeus (Medateus, Madaeteus, Madateus): etymologia niejasna, Leach nie wyjaśnił pochodzenia nazwy rodzajowej^[20]. Gatunek typowy (oznaczenie monotypowe): Madataeus lewisii Leach, 1821 (= Artibeus jamaicensis Leach, 1821).
Pteroderma: gr. πτερον pteron ‘skrzydło’; δερμα derma, δερματος dermatos ‘skóra’^[21]. Gatunek typowy (oznaczenie monotypowe): Pteroderma perspicillatum Gervais, 1856 (= Phyllostoma obscurum Schinz, 1821).
Koopmania: Karl F. Koopman (1920–1997), amerykański zoolog, chiropterolog^[13]. Gatunek typowy (oryginalne oznaczenie): Artibeus concolor Peters, 1865.
